Engineer in Charge of Watch

Job Summary:

Competencies 1-4 for this grade are MANADATORY. You must also complete a minimum of 3 units of competency between 5 and 11.

E.g. Complete and submit competencies 1-4, 6, 8, 10 as your portfolio.

The areas that will be assessed within Engineer in charge of Watch Grade include:

Entry Level Specifications:

• Complies with IMCA guidance for Training and Experience of key DP personnel M 117, a valid flag state certificate i.a.w. STCW Reg. III/I and appropriate seagoing service, propulsion power of 750kW or more
• Has a valid IMCA logbook / record of competence that is kept up to date, with training, qualifications and experience i.a.w. STCW Reg. VI/I & MARPOL 73/78 as amended .
• Has a valid flag state medical certificate
• Has a valid flag state survival training certificate i.a.w. STCW Reg VI/2
• Has valid certificates for personal survival techniques; fire fighting & fire prevention and personal safety & social responsibility (STCW Reg VI/I)and STCW Reg VI/3 as appropriate .
• Security related training in accordance with STCW Reg VI/6
• Demonstrates adequate knowledge & use of the English language i.a.w STCW code table A II/I
• Demonstrates knowledge of emergency procedures, including formal training and assessment record of emergency drills / situations
• Appropriate certificate of training in medical first-aid i.a.w STCW Code Section A-VI/4 (table A-VI/4-I to 3)
• Record of competence to be an Engineer in Charge of Watch takes cognisance of flag and coastal state requirements at an operational level including demonstrating knopwledge of emergency procedures

The following competencies will be assessed through performance criteria:

2) The ability to co-ordinate the engineering watch during an emergency situation of the DP System and / or Vessel
3) The ability to coach / mentor personnel and implement effective management and communication techniques in the workplace
4) Take charge of the Engineering Watch on a DP Vessel, monitoring machinery and responding to mechanical / electrical failure
5) Operate & maintain equipment during Deployment & recovery of anchors
6) Operate & maintain equipment during Heavy lifting operations
7) Operate & maintain equipment during Diving Operations
8) Operate & maintain equipment during Pipelay operations
9) Operate & maintain equipment during Well Servicing
10) Operate & maintain equipment during ROV / Survey Operations
11) Operate & maintain equipment during Semi-submersibles Operations
