Able Seafarer

Job Summary:

All deck crew are regarded as someone who is fully conversant in all deck and/or engineering activities associated with marine operations.

They can successfully participate in the deck team during operations and will report directly to the Marine Officer / Deck Foreman when offshore.

The crew is also expected to take part in the competence assessment process.

They may optionally hold competences as Riggers, Welders, Crane Operators or Able Seafarers

Entry Level Specifications:

  • Valid certificate of competence (vessel under 200GT) in accordance with STCW Reg. 11/4, 11/5
  • Current and valid medical certificate
  • Valid certificates of training in personal survival; fire-fighting and fire prevention; first aid; and personal safety & social responsibility i.a.w. STCW reg VI/I
  • Valid certificates of training for survival craft and medical care i.a.w. STCW Reg. VI/I-I & 3
  • Knowledge of English i.a.w. STCW section A-II/I
  • Candidates must have completed units of competence 1–5 and at least one unit from 6 to 9 before submitting them as part of their portfolio for this grade
