Grade I Surveyor

A Grade I Surveyor is regarded as someone who is conversant with survey aspects of marine survey operations.

They can successfully participate in the Survey Project Team during operations and will report directly to the Senior Surveyor.

The Grade I Surveyor is expected to coach and assess junior members of the Survey Project Team in line with the Competence Management Programme.

Satisfactory completion of the competence criteria for Surveyor Grade II and be working towards Surveyor Grade I
Nominally 80 days operational experience as a Surveyor Grade II
Valid and current offshore medical certificate that is acceptable in the region of the world in which they are employed
Valid and current offshore survival certificate that is acceptable in the region of the world in which they are employed

1) The ability to install and configure technical software packages
2) The ability to interpret data quality criteria
3) The ability to set up online systems
4) The ability to plan and undertake the calibration of the survey system and sensors
5) The ability to implement an onboard data management system
6) The ability to archive and backup survey data
7) The ability to present the results of a survey
8) The ability to calculate tidal and water column parameters for use within the survey system/project
9) The ability to install and configure positioning systems
10) The ability to calibrate positioning systems
11) The ability to calculate and adjust survey observations
12) The ability to interpret and apply datum parameters
13) The ability to demonstrate an understanding of survey principles and how they are used for planning surveys
14) The ability to prepare a data processing job
