Grade I Geotechnical Operator

A Grade I Operator is regarded as someone who is experienced in many aspects of geotechnical systems operations.

They can successfully participate in the Survey Team during operations and will report directly to the Senior Survey Engineer.

The Grade I Operator is expected to coach and assess junior members of the Survey Project Team in line with the Competence Management Programme.

The Geotechnical Operator is responsible for the mobilisation, setup, maintenance and operations of all geotechnical systems.

Satisfactory completion of the competence criteria for Operator Grade II and be working towards Operator Grade I
Nominally 75 days operational experience and 4 mobilisations as an Operator Grade II
Valid and current offshore medical certificate that is acceptable in the region of the world in which they are employed
Valid and current offshore survival certificate that is acceptable in the region of the world in which they are employed

Competencies	Performance Criteria	Underpinning Knowledge Questions
1) The ability to setup and maintain a geotechnical system
2) Demonstrate an understanding of launch and recovery/ conveyance systems (e.g. winch and A-frame, crane, ROV LARS, etc.) and their capabilities and limitations
3) Demonstrate an understanding of interfacing with third party systems (e.g. ship's power, ROV systems, positioning systems, etc.) and the integration between these and the geotechnical system
4) The ability to calibrate and operate geotechnical systems
5) The ability to service and maintain geotechnical equipment
6) The ability to install and configure technical software packages
7) The ability to use technical online software packages
8) The ability to interpret data quality criteria and use an on board data management system
9) The ability to undertake routine administrative tasks and keep online logs
10) Demonstrate a understanding of positioning, water depths and seabed topography as they relate to sampling operations
