Dive Technician (Mechanical)

Job Summary:

A Dive Technician (Mechanical) is regarded as someone who is conversant with the mechanical systems of diving equipment associated with subsea marine operations.

They can participate in the Dive Technical Team during operations and will report directly to the Dive Technician Supervisor when offshore.

The Dive Technician (Mechanical) is expected to take part in the competence assessment process.

Entry Level Specifications:

• Prior knowledge, skills and experience of mechanical/hydraulic engineering gained through either:
  • Trade qualification or
  • Advanced academic education or
  • Military training/qualification
  • Extensive experience in previous employment
• Current and valid survival certificate
• Current and valid medical certificate
• Complete employing company familiarisation course

The following competencies will be assessed through performance criteria:

1) The ability to perform activities in a safe manner in accordance with legislative and operating company requirements
2) The ability to participate in emergency procedures as required on the vessel or installation where operations take place
3) The ability to perform in a team and cooperate in all operational activities in a safe and reliable manner
4) The ability to undertake accurate gauge calibration, testing and maintenance within the dive system
5) The ability to undertake testing and maintenance of regulators and pressure relief valves used within the dive system
6) The ability to demonstrate correct application of pipe work, valves and fittings within dive systems and recognise environmental, safety and material limitation factors
7) The ability to carry out gas purity tests, record results and take appropriate action as dictated by results
8) The ability to fully understand the dive system chamber configuration and the ancillary equipment required to maintain the correct environment for a divers well being
9) The ability to undertake planned maintenance and fault finding activities on industry standard divers' hats
10) The ability to store, maintain and conduct mechanical umbilical re-terminations
11) The ability to undertake all routine administrative tasks that are required to be undertaken during normal dive maintenance operations
